THE REVELATION
A VERSE BY VERSE COMMENTARY
Through a glass darkly
The following is taken from the book,
"The Revelation A Verse By Verse Commentary".
1 Corinthians 13:12 (KJV)12For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
1. Matthew 24:36 (KJV) 36But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
Matthew 24:42 (KJV) 42Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
Matthew 25:13 (NLT) 13“So you, too, must keep watch! For you do not know the day or hour of my return.
2. Matthew 24:32 - 33 (KJV) 32Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: 33So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
Luke 21:29 - 31 (KJV) 29And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees; 30When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.31So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.
Matthew 16:2 - 3 (KJV) 2He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. 3And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
Hebrews 9:28 (KJV) 28So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
God has told us, in no uncertain terms, that we will not know the day or the hour that Jesus will be sent to get us. We see that we are to watch for him and know the season when his coming is near. We also see he rebukes those that do not discern the time.
3. 1 Corinthians 15:51 (KJV) 51Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 1 Corinthians 15:53 (NKJV) 53For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. Philippians 3:21 (NKJV) 21who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself. Hebrews 9:27 (KJV) 27And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
This is telling me that our corrupt bodies must die and new ones be given us. I do not know how God will accomplish this, but I see it like this: as we are going up our old body disintegrates, {maybe from the top of the head down} and a new one instantly forms.
4. 1 Corinthians 15:52 (KJV) 52In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, …
1 Thessalonians 4:16 - 17 (KJV) 16For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Matthew 24:31 (ESV) 31And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
“unto them that look for him”
I do not believe the sinners will hear the trumpet nor see us leave. As Matthew 24:31 & 1 Corinthians 15:52 tell us we will be taken by angles at the speed of light. I do wonder if those left behind will hear a thunder clap when we go? Our bodies will be vanishing at the speed of light this could cause thunder like a jet or lightning bolt. Wouldn’t it be interesting if the rapture created a world-wide role of thunder.

I found The Revelation – A Verse By Verse Commentary by Robert J. Hergert Sr. to be a comprehensive and well-researched analysis of one of the most mysterious and misunderstood books of the Bible. I was impressed with the thoroughness of the author’s research on this subject, the varied scholarly sources from which he formulates his opinions, and the spiritual zeal with which he approaches this work. This book is clearly a labor of love, and the author’s profound personal beliefs and deep faith are evident in his writing and commentary. The book is also remarkable for it’s relevance to everyday life and for the author’s obvious desire to share his love of Bible study with his readers.

In reading Pastor Hergert's treatise on John's Revelation, I have found this to be concise and informative work. It is the guide for the common man. It is not filled with biased theory and propaganda. Rather, it is the companion for the common man. It provides an insight and understanding of the book that I have not found elsewhere. It is a sorely needed simplification of what too many authors have made more complicated in their explanations!

i. “In English a ‘mystery’ is something dark, obscure, secret, puzzling. What is ‘mysterious’ is inexplicable, even incomprehensible. The Greek word mysterion is different, however. Although still a ‘secret’, it is no longer closely guarded but open . . . More simply, mysterion is a truth hitherto hidden from human knowledge or understanding but now disclosed by the revelation of God.” (Stott)
Thanks to Robert’s dedication and in-depth research of God's Word his verse by verse commentary will help the reader to unlock that mystery and bring to the surface the depth and breadth of God's Word.
Ephesians 3.18That you may have the power and be strong to apprehend and grasp with all the saints [God's devoted people, the experience of that love] what is the breadth and length and height and depth [of it];
Having read the book of Revelation many times over the last 25 years, I was amazed at the Depth in God's Word that Robert brought to the surface through his verse by verse commentary.
The Revelation Commentary is an excellent work by a dedicated man of God. His passion and love for the Word shines through in this in-depth study of the Book of Revelation. His verse by verse objective analysis will surely help with your understanding.
He also includes his subjective beliefs and challenges the reader to study and draw their own conclusions.
As a bonus, Robert also includes a chapter and guide on How to study the Bible on your own. Once you have read The Revelation you will be compelled to begin your own journey into every word of instruction God has given us to prepare the believer into eternal life.
